HOW IT STARTED
In February 2020, the Texaco Camaro was completed by Dusold Designs (Mike Dusold) as a SEMA level build for Jason Bottenfield who has owned the car since 1993 (his very first car at age 15). The car was built specifically to race in the Optima Ultimate Street Car Series. You will notice the livery on the car is a tribute to the 1960's Trans Am racing series; however there was never a Texaco branded car in the series at that time, so this is a "one of kind" race livery developed by Jason Bottenfield and Mike Dusold (Dusold Designs).
The reason for the Texaco livery was two-fold, Jason lives in Texas, but more importantly his grand father and father owned a Texaco station from 1950-1980's...and the number 18 gumball number on the side was Jason's baseball number in high school.
Jason Bottenfield he had not raced this car or any car prior to July of 2020, and after attending a few local Autocross events in 2020 he started into his Optima campaign racing at PPIR - Pike Peak International Raceway in Fountain, CO (July 2020) and won the First Timers Award.
The Optima series is made up of 5 elements: Road Course, Auto Cross, Acceleration & Braking Challenge, Design & Engineering and to show these are really street cars, a Road Rally that take you from the track and into town.
WINNING COMBINATION
Jason continues to race in the Optima Ultimate Street Car as his main racing series, and won the 2021 GTV Class National Points title in his second full year of racing and followed up with the 2022 GTV Class National Points title the following year. He also attends various large national race events in the US, including Good Guys, LS Fest, and others. Jason plans to continue developing the Texaco Camaro and making it one of the fastest "multi-discipline" Camaro's in the country...stay tuned and follow-us on Instagram and YouTube for more!
GROWING NATIONAL BRAND
Texaco Camaro is now a global brand name with diecast toy cars sold in America since 2021 (Products) and now across the world including Japan of all places. There have been 5 models of the car produced as of 2023 and major retail stores like Hobby Lobby, Walmart Online, Target Online and Summit Racing all sell the cars. Texaco Camaro Aero was a product developed in 2022 from a need to find a front spoiler that works and looks good on a classic car like the 1969 Camaro. That product has been sold across the US with great success and other race products are being developed off the Texaco Camaro platform for fans and other racers to use on their cars.
2023 FRAM FILTERS PRODUCT HERO / AMBASSADOR
In 2021, during the first championship campaign we started looking at oil filters and cutting them open to see what was inside after some various conversations on filtration. Many stand by a certain filter or another and never really get into why they are good for their application - it is more of a word of mouth or what others say about a filter that tends to lead you to that specific one. So we took a look and found many beneficial qualities for our setup with the FRAM HP18 Racing Oil Filter. So we reached out to FRAM Filtration after using the filter for over 10 races to see if there was a fit into their racing program, essentially the grassroots racing side of the marketing effort they do annually. We raced 2022 as a FRAM team member and have now moved on to being a full ambassador to the brand. We are excited to be a FRAM Product Hero & Ambassador for 2023.
