TEXACO CAMARO HISTORY & STORY

HOW IT STARTED 

In February 2020, the Texaco Camaro was completed by Dusold Designs, specifically for Jason Bottenfield who has owned the car since 1993. The car was built as a SEMA level show car and to race in the Optima Ultimate Street Car Series, and it pays tribute to the 1960's Trans Am racing series. Although there was no Texaco branded car in the series at that time, Jason and Mike Dusold created a unique race livery for the car. The Texaco livery was chosen because Jason lives in Texas and his grandfather and father owned a Texaco station. The number 18 on the side of the car represents Jason's baseball number in high school. Jason had never raced any car before July 2020. After attending a few local Autocross events, he started his Optima campaign and won the First Timers Award at PPIR - Pike Peak International Raceway in Fountain, CO (July 2020). 

The Optima series consists of 5 elements: Road Course, Auto Cross, Acceleration & Braking Challenge, Design & Engineering, and a Road Rally. 

WINNING COMBINATION 

Jason continues to race in the Optima Ultimate Street Car series and won the 2021 and 2022 GTV Class National Points titles. He also participates in various national race events in the US such as Good Guys, SCCA and LS Fest. Jason plans to further develop the Texaco Camaro and make it one of the fastest "multi-discipline" Camaros in the country.

GROWING A NATIONAL BRAND 

Texaco Camaro has become a global brand name, with diecast toy cars being sold in America and Europe since 2021. There have been 5 models of the car produced as of 2023 (actually 7 versions, 2 were produced with "green wheels" called Green Machines - limited run), and they can be purchased at major retail stores like Hobby Lobby, Walmart Online, Target Online, and Summit Racing online. The Texaco Camaro Aero, developed in 2022, is a product designed for a 1969 Camaro that might see higher speed track time. The front aero has seen over 160mph speeds and has been successful in the US, and other race products based on the Texaco Camaro platform are being developed for fans and other racers to use on their cars.
